Stella Bella Wines in Margaret River. I remember the first thing I noticed when I came across the winery was the name – a beautiful name, but quite unique especially when grouped with the associated and equally as quirky labels of Suckfizzle, Luminosa and Skuttlebutt – all magnificent labels crafted by head winemaker Luke Jolliffe. Now, Luke was born in South Australia’s Clare Valley, a magnificent wine region where Luke was surrounded by magnificent wineries and wines. Yet Luke is not from a wine growing family – in fact the joke was that he became the black sheep of the family when he chose a career in wine – a choice that took him to Adelaide University. From that point on Luke’s craftmanship has taken him from strength to strength. He has worked both abroad and returned to Australia’s sunny shores where he took up the helm at Stella Bella in Western Australia’s Margaret River. Luke has been behind an embarrassment of medals, awards and recognition for Stella Bella, particularly in 2021 for the Luminosa Cabernet receiving 99 points from the Real Review. Luke is as humble and down to earth as you get, and he recently took some time out of his busy schedule while he was on the road to have a chat and share his story, perspectives and insights into one of the Australia’s finest wine regions.
