2. A Better Priest - 5:1-7:28

a. The Requirements for Priesthood - 5:1-4

1. A priest must be human (v1a)

2. They must offer both gifts and sacrifices for sin (v1b)

3. He must be compassionate and sympathetic (v2-3)

4. The high priest had to be appointed by God (v4)

b. The Son is Qualified- 5:5-10

1. Jesus was divinely appointed (v5-6)

2. Jesus was human (v7)

3. He was compassionate (v8)

4. Jesus was perfected through His suffering (v9-10)

c. The Third Warning: Danger of not Progressing 5:11-6:20

1. Don’t become dull of hearing- 5:11-14

a. The order of Melchizedek is not milk (v11)

b. They need milk and not solid food (v12)

c. They failed to use the knowledge they had(v13)

d. The mature discern good and evil (v14)

2. The Need to Progress - 6:1-8

a. Move on from the basics of Scripture (vs1-2)

b. And this we will do, if God permits (v3
