Title: Politics as Usual (2 Samuel Chapters 15 & 16) - Lesson from April 13, 2025

Introduction: Money, Power, Jealousy, Greed, Pride, all of these things have existed since the garden of Eden. We are fooling ourselves if we believe that those in and around the house of David were immune.
We can believe that David’s past sins did play a part in David’s troubles. However, I think that all too often we are tempted to focus our attention on numbering David’s sins as if he deserves everything that comes his way. When we fall prey to that we miss some valuable truths:

  • David’s enemies are responsible to the LORD for their own choices.

  • It is God who established David’s throne and He has not removed that title from David.

  • David remains humble and seeks the good of Israel through persecution and betrayal.

  • David submits his kingdom to the hand of the Lord.

Outline:

  • Absalom's Conspiracy

  • David Flees Jerusalem

  • Ziba, a False Servant.

  • Davis is Cursed

  • Absalom Enters Jerusalem

Conclusion: Absalom’s rebellion will continue for a short while. God did allow the uprising and the revolt. However, He will not allow Absalom to simply take the throne. Next week we will again look to cover multiple chapters, (17-19).
Unfortunately, this revolt led by Absalom will not be the last of David’s troubles.
