E44 BH LA Monroe Preview and why Bama will course correct and still make the playoffs In the aftermath of the Alabama loss 31-17 to FSU on Saturday, the fanbase and the Bamateurs are still reeling as the team started the season the wrong way. Step 1 of 12 steps went the wrong way. Many are calling for DeBoer to be fired and throwing in the towel on the season. I am not. More to come on that topic. First let’s preview LA Monroe. Alabama has elite talent. LA Monroe is a mid-major Alabama still has a power rating of 13 despite losing to FSU. La Monroe 110 La Monroe has no NFL draft prospects currently. In their win over St Francis PA, they rushed for 311 yards. They have a dual threat QB in Aidan Armenta. Good test for the Bama run defense. Have we improved? Do we have discipline and aggressiveness? Can we play good fundamental football? Has the coaches worked on better schemes and adjustments? This game should be a big win for Bama. And if not, things are really bad. DeBoer wins at home. We have better players. We are motivated. Ryan Grubb is still a good OC. I am skeptical of Kane Wommack, but we will see how it goes the next two weeks. Should be an easy win, but we have to play hard and smart and be disciplined. Bama needs to run the ball and establish the run game, play action passing, and the short, intermediate passing game. Why will Bama course correct and make the playoffs? 1. Humiliated 2. DeBoer coaching for his job 3. Kane Wommack coaching for his job 4. Defense was terrible and humiliated 5. We cannot play worse 6. Grubb and DeBoer will get the offense back on track 7. Wommack will have to demonstrate that his defense can set the edge and stop the RPO run game So far in the 12 steps of the season, we have one step backwards. Call it a misstep. We can only withstand one more misstep. Correctable mistakes on Defense. All correctable and all inexcusable lack of recognition and execution by the defense. Shows team was not prepared and not ready for these plays. Executing properly on 2 of these 5 plays takes 14 pts off the board and FSU only scores 17 pts instead of 31. Correctible issues by the Offense. Four offensive trips to the FSU 40 yd line that results in no points. If Bama ends one of these four drives with a TD and ends another with a FB, Bama gets 10 more points and has a chance at the end to win the game, Bama abandons the run in the last 3 quarters of the game. Calls 2 pass plays for every run play after the first series. FSU had a bend, but don’t break defense. They didn’t give up the big play over the top and got called for PI twice to stop TD’s over the top. Because of the score, people think our offense didn’t move the ball. We did move the ball, but didn’t finish drives effectively with four drives ending inside the 40 with Bama missing a FG and turning the ball over on downs three times. Coaches will start making halftime adjustments – they made no adjustments at halftime that had a positive impact.
