Today we're revisiting a conversation with Chris Hall, originally published in December 2022. We discuss his book The Writer’s Mindset: Six Stances That Promote Authentic Revision.

This episode is being republished as part of the National Literacy Month campaign, presented in partnership by the Be Podcast Network and Reading Is Fundamental.

We cover:

  • Why Chris chose to focus his book on the topic of revision
  • The 6 Stances students can adopt toward their writing
  • Beliefs about optimism: students should learn from their strengths & students should choose what to write and revise
  • How to make risk-taking inviting for young writers
  • How teachers can model flexible thinking — openness to new ideas and approaches — for students

The Writer’s Mindset is published by Heinemann

Chris was recommended by former guest Mike Anderson. Listen to Mike’s episode:  Tackling the Motivation Crisis with Mike Anderson.
