The Art Mark Silver

Mark Silver has written everything from the back of a crayon box to the front page of the Los Angeles Times Calendar section and beyond. He has worked in television drama and comedy as well as film drama and comedy defying the edict that you always have to write what you know.

In this conversation we talk about balancing the need to provide for your family and the passion to pursue a career in the creative world. A journey that included opening his own construction business as a response to one of many writers’ strikes.

A couple of years ago, Mark was out for a swim after a run on the beach and nearly drowned. The slow and sometimes uncertain recovery that has followed could’ve taken him out of the game altogether but instead, he’s finishing a book, and a television pilot while continuing to work as a freelance copywriter.
