Self-love Friday | E1 | Broken Temporarily; Fulfilled Long-term

Self-love Friday continues, although everything I had posted up until this past weekend has fell through. I will still dedicate these days to being grateful for myself and what I’ve overcome.
In 2015, this was the first time I got a project at a company called Marigot, which is a sister branch of Swalvolrksi in Austria. It was a TOUGH TIME…being the height of racism not only in Thailand but also my job. The lady, named Ma’am, didn’t want me to work at this company because I was black. However, she had no other option to use me because the over 50’s didn’t want to accept the job. So, I knew the odds were stacked against me because they had brought another “white” teacher there and I knew the students would literally serenade for him. I didn’t let that bullshit and old paradigms bother me though. I went into my first class and turned UP. At the end of the day, the racism manager of the language center realized I was the best teacher the language center had, and this opened up a vast amount of different pathways into working at other companies, building a conversation course, making top-dollar, etc.
Behind this smile, tie, vest, and suit….was a timid, lackluster soul who had been completely wiped out because of racial discrimination. I kept believing that there was something else out there that was bigger than me. This was before the podcast. This was before everything…this was at the height of hell in this country where news of “black people doing bad shit” was on your breakfast TV (absolutely changed since then because Netflix and Black Panther). But look at me now?
In the midst of all the chaos, people, drown out those voices that put labels on you and say “you can’t.” I’m beyond grateful for the harsh experienced I’ve endured and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
