There are five types of non-essentials.
Need: Is what you’re doing needed? What’s taking up space? In addition to that, write down the five skills that you must develop in your field of endeavor to bring more clarity, then focus on the OQP. Don’t hire anyone because there’s nothing like hiring someone and not knowing their roles — such as what I did three years ago with a VA.
Ownership: Are you in charge? Do you own it? If not, you don’t have to do it. Unless you’re being forced to do it as a job application, you need to say “no” more often and stop putting non-essentials into your schedule.
Passion: what is it that you’re doing that you don’t have passion for?
Growth: Is what you’re doing helping you grow? Is it developing your character?
Will it allow you to serve more? Will it change or add to your competencies: knowledge, skills, abilities. Is there something else you can add that will help you grow?
Impact: Is what you’re doing help you move the needle forward?
Time to tune in!
