Savoring Self
“Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means to escape.” -bell hooks
- Why you need to savor yourself
- Keeps your cup full. Helps you to keep that feeling in your reserves when you feel depleted from a lack of others savoring you.
- Point of savoring is to slow down and intensify that moment. Do it for yourself too.
- Lets you know whether you’re being treated well.
- Keeps your self-esteem in a healthy place.
- Keeps you in a place of balance so you don’t trash yourself so quickly.
- How to prep for savoring yourself
- Clear the distractions. Get the sitter ready. Take off of work.
- Treat yourself like the most important appointment for that day
- Do not apologize nor justify it. Just do it.
- Make a list of your favorite things so you can prepare to have them on hand.
- Prep for the necessities. The outfit you need to lay out. The reservation you may need to make. etc.
- What to do on a day of self-appreciation
- Wake up when you want to
- Get the food YOU savor
- Play your favorite songs
- Spritz your favorite scent
- No obligatory behaviors period
- Make the phone calls or have the conversations that center you and bring you joy
- At the end of the day, reflect on how great the day has been and put the NEXT self-appreciation day on the calendar
