How Important is Deck Originality? Do You Share a Commander?

Bruce and Andy have been noticing for years that their playgroup tends to shy away from overlapping commanders. Is this the norm? Why does this happen? Is it good? It it bad? Is it just a normal consequence from having a consistent playgroup? We are not the arbiters of this topic, but it's just an interesting thing we noticed. Let us know your experience!
