Never is radio more important to the listeners than it is in remote communities in the wilderness of central Alaska.  McGrath with a population of 250 is one of those communities and veteran broadcaster Paul B. Walker Jr. makes sure that the airwaves of KSKO are filled with local information.  Paul is the Program Director and Director of all operations at the one man station.

Even the weather itself has special meaning when temperatures can dip to life threatening  low levels.   Available jobs, community bulletin boards, the arrival of the spring thaw are all big news in a community like McGrath.

Paul is everything at the station and his spellbinding conversation with John Leslie is a must hear on this episode of Talking About Radio.  He tells a story of a whole different world than most of us are use to.
