Hello 💜
This week I had the honour of chatting with Belinda Seymour who open heartedly bares her chest and talks about choice with me. Belinda is a BRCA1 mutant gene carrier which means that she had an increased risk of ovarian and breast cancer.
Once a positive result was returned, she had a 50/50 chance, she then elected to undergo a preventative radical hysterectomy with a planned double mastectomy to follow within 12 months. Life had other ideas meaning that the second surgery was brought forward by months, compelling Belinda to research her options around her surgery and breast reconstruction earlier than expected.
On the basis of what she learned, Belinda made the unusual choice to keep a flat chest and not undergo a reconstruction at all.
This is a big story that impacted her, her relationship with her body and her relationship with her husband and her family.
Listen along to hear how Belinda kept her mind positive while making this very personal and heart driven decision.
And if you'd like to reach out to her, please email me - [email protected] and I'll pass your details on.
I hope you enjoy this very personal story.
Have a beautiful week.
