Practical Tips to try:
1. Start by asking your husband if there is anything that he needs help with or specifically needs you to do to better help his day.
2. Ask your husband “When you get a free five minutes, I have some things this week or today that I really need help with and here’s why.” A lot of times when they hear the “why” behind your timeline, it helps them to see from our perspective.
3. I know it’s hard, but try to ask for help without a tone or attitude. I struggle with this area. I am boiling inside that he already hasn’t jumped into help and then finally ask for help in an ugly, rude tone.
4. I make my husband a list of things that either I always need help with or may specifically need help with that week. I’ll either text it to him only on Monday and not send any reminders. Okay, maybe some gentle reminders, but I try not to. This has helped Jeremy, for instance if we have a family coming over for dinner on Friday and our grass needs to be cut. I’ll ask him on Monday of that week if he can cut the grass by Friday because we have guests coming.
5. Pray together. Pray that the Lord will help your mind to meditate on the fact that you and your husband are on the same team. He is for you. You are for him. His mind works completely differently than yours. Give him the benefit of the doubt before you're ready to go to war. Pray for opportunities to lovingly serve your spouse in ways that will show each other you love them.
