Out of the mouths of babes: "Life doesn't frighten me at all."

That's how this message, these powerful words from the great poet Dr. Maya Angelou, reentered my consciousness -- it was thanks to the recent learnings of my two little boos (the young sons of my best friend) who recited the line, "Life doesn't frighten me at all..." as their parents drove me to the airport for my move from New York to Atlanta. I adore them so just about anything they do delights me, but this moment was particularly inspiring. One, because of the power of the phrase coming from these little souls, two, because of the story behind the poem, which Dr. Angelou said she wrote "for all children who whistle in the dark and refuse to admit that they're frightened out of their wits."

How many times have you found yourself having to, as an adult, whistle through that darkness in your life. As a woman, as an entrepreneur, as a leader, a creative, a mom, a person just being -- there are going to be moments when you are "frightened out of your wits" and that you will need to decide to be brave, to whistle.

On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, I talk about moments where we might face that darkness and how to whistle through it. You'll also get to hear a recording of Dr. Angelou reading her poem, which appears in the children's book, Life Doesn't Frighten Me, where her verses are paired with the embracing images of artist Jean Michel Basquiat. Have a listen, and keep whistling!
