In honor of Black History Month:

 In order to travel safely across the US, black motorists relied on the green book, named after the creator Victor Hugo Green. In the racially divisive American of Jim Crow, black Americans were denigrated, targeted, shunned, threatened, and often the victims of assault by white Americans. They were refused service and lodging solely because of the color of their skin.
