July 2, 1937...Amelia Earhart's plane the Electra went down somewhere over the Pacific Ocean between New Guinea and Howland Island, radio contact with her and her navigator, Fred Noonan was difficult.  It is believed the plane ran out of gas between 100-200 miles from their scheduled stop.
