Prayer 2021 - March 21 - Listening to Doubt

Scripture For Today:

Psalm 17:1

A prayer of David.  Hear me, Lord, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.

Listening to Doubt

We have been talking about believing you receive your prayers as answered. We have also been talking about growing up in the faith so you can believe yourself for having your prayers answered. And we have been talking about growing up spiritually so you can hold onto your prayers being answered and not allow the devil to steal what you received.

But, if you allow any doubt to creep in at all – you can lose it all. 

I remember hearing a great man of God one time, if I mentioned his name, many of you would know immediately who I’m talking about. But he told a story about a man that had some type of paralysis. It had gotten so bad, he could barely move around his house. He lost his job, etc. 

He was raised as a Methodist of Presbyterian, I think, but that really doesn’t matter. His faith or denomination did not believe that healing miracles were for today. They believe it all went away when the disciples died out. Oh, they don’t deny God can’t heal, they just don’t believe you can pray for it and expect results. They do their best to deny the power of God and the authority of the Word of God. But anyway…

This man was desperate. He heard there was a meeting taking place in town where miracles were happening every night. So he got down to the meeting and when given the opportunity to go forward for prayer, he had someone help him to the front. The preacher laid hands on him and he was instantly healed! Praise God!

He went home, went to bed and got up the next morning and could barely move. He prayed something the effect of, “God, if what I felt last night was the power of God, I want it again. If it was just some hype or some power that preacher had – or if it was from you, I need to know. If it was truly you, let feel that same power now and get this off of me.”

He felt the power of God come on him again and he was as healed as before! He got up, went shopping and was just enjoying his healing. 

A few days later, he pastor came by. He’d heard about the man’s healing. He came by to warn him to “be careful about that healing stuff. It’s of the devil…”

By the time the pastor left, the symptoms were back and a little later that day, he could barely walk again.

A few months later, that same preacher came back to town to hold another meeting. The man’s wife went to ask him to come pray for her husband. He had been confined to the bed since a day or two after the man’s pastor had left him. She said he lays in bed cursing God for allowing that sickness to come back on him. He said he’s saved, but still curses God. The preacher told her he could not do anything for her husband. 

He had heard the Word of God, accepted it and received the healing. The devil came back, just like Jesus said it would and the next morning, he was feeling the effects of the disease. He prayed and asked God to confirm the healing power – and God honored his request. Then the devil sent that deceived pastor to him – and received the testimony of the devil over the testimony of God and God’s confirming power. 

The man was healed by a manifestation of the Power of God. But when he got to where he was going to have to take a stand on his own, he refused to do so. And now, the last state of the man was worse than at the first. Now, the devil had him cussing at God.

Folks, that is why it is so important for you to be taught the Word of God and the power thereof. It is also why you cannot associate yourself or put yourself under the authority of anyone that is not of like precious faith as you believe. That pastor may have been a nice guy and a friend of that man for many years. But, if I had received my healing and then a confirmation that it was from God, I’m sorry, friend or pastor or not – I’m not associating myself or putting myself under the spiritual authority of anyone who believes otherwise. I’ve had to extricate myself from a couple of churches for that same reason.
