Prayer 2021 - December 5 - Knowing the Will of God in Prayer pt 1

Scripture For Today:

 Isaiah 26:16

“Lord, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer…”

Knowing the Will of God in Prayer pt 1

If you have been following this prayer series for any length of time, you often hear me quote from 1 John 5:14-15…

“And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us. And if we know He hears us, whatsoever we ask, we KNOW that we have the petitions that we ask of Him.”  Amen!

In the next several sessions, we are going to do a deep dive into the meaning behind this verse. I want us to look at, especially, two words. Those are “confidence” and hears.”

Under what conditions do we have CONFIDENCE that God hears us? Or another translation reads that as “we have BOLDNESS…” Boldness that God hears us. There is only ONE condition, “That we ask according to His will.”

There is another thought that goes right along with this and it is found in verse 15. “And if we KNOW that He (God) hears us, whatsoever we ask (God), we know that we HAVE the petitions (or the request) that we desired of Him.”

If God hears us when we pray, we know we HAVE the answer to the prayer we asked Him for. It gets no plainer than that. I don’t care who “theological” you want to act – the Word says what the Word says. And if the Word says it – IT (the Word) MUST be true!

You are not trying to tell me that the Word “is not true” are you?  I should hope not…

But, if we look at the flip side of 1 John 5:14-15, we can infer there are prayers that God does not hear. Prayers that God does not listen to. Prayers that God does not answer.

Uh-Oh!

For example, God does not hear the prayers that are prayed in doubt and unbelief. Remember, God is only moved by Faith. God responds TO FAITH. Now, He will put up with a little doubt and unbelief if the person is a baby Christian, but is earnest and sincere in their prayers. 

But He expects MORE out of a mature believer. But, if we pray in Faith, according to His will – and we did an extensive study on HIS WORD IS HIS WILL – go back and listen if you need to – ONLY THEN can we have the confidence and the KNOWING that we received our prayers as answered. Amen!

Also, it is important to note that without that type of confidence or boldness that John is talking about in verse 14, our prayers will be ineffective. If we do not fulfill our part in lining our prayers up with God’s Word (which is His will), then our prayers will not work. Period. 

God will only hear us when we pray in Faith and according to His Word (which is His Will). Amen!
