Scripture For Today:

 Psalm 141:2

“May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.”

What James Had to Say About Prayer pt 4

We have been studying what the Apostle James had to say about prayer. We have been studying the verses from James 5:13-18:

“Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any Merry? Let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray on for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth by the space of three years and six months! And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain and the earth brought forth her fruit.”

We looked at the first part, “Is any among you afflicted?”  Now, we will look at what James had to say next. “Is any merry?”

The rest of that verse says, “…let him sing psalms.”

That’s easy! I don’t think I have to go into an in-depth teaching on what this portion of the verse means. At least I hope I don’t!

Everyone finds it easy to sing when you’re happy, right?  The issue is WHAT TO SING!

Don’t go singing worldly songs that cuss or talk down to your spirit man. Sing worship songs! Sing THE PSALMS – just like James said! Amen!

Everyone knows at least a childhood Bible song, like “Jesus loves me this I know, because the Bible tells me so…”

Some may say something like, “I don’t want to sing that song, it’s for kids…”

But the Bible says we are to have what? “Child-like faith!”  AMEN!

To be truthful, Brother Bob sings that song often!  Several times per week!

I might be driving down the road to the store or something and I’ll start humming in my head and the next thing I know, I’m sing the entire song out loud! Amen!  Right there in my car - because if I sang it out in public, I’d probably be asked to stop… not because it’s a Bible song, but because of my voice. Amen!

But even those of who can’t sing with great ability can definitely make a joyful noise unto the Lord, right?

And trust me, when you can break forth into spontaneous singing of praises to our Lord – He does enjoy it! Despite how it sounds to us or others around us. I can guarantee, that when you sing songs of praise – even child-like songs of praise – to the Lord – HE ENJOYS IT!  Amen!

Remember, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” So when you start to notice that you are singing songs of praise the Lord, you can know it is pleasing in His ears. And He will bless you even more for it. Amen!
