Strung Out Episode 39 US Ambassador to Malaysia Brian McFeeters

When I was in grade school, I remember one of my teachers, Miss Cavers talking about her grandfather being an ambassador to some exotic country.  The name of where he was slips my mind.  But the one thing she said he had to do was eat with some dignitaries some local dish that consisted of some plant that was premasticated by the people preparing it. 

Naturally all of us thought that was pretty gross and I filed my ambassador ambition in the “probably not” drawer.

So it was great to find out that my first cousin Brian McFeeters was appointed US Ambassador to the great nation of Malaysia.  Brian has spent three decades in the diplomatic corp and has been stationed around the world.  Most notably he was stationed in the Green Zone in Iraq when the embassy was attacked by some radical militant groups.  

It’s a long way from when we would all meet out in Wyoming and hike in the foothills as kids.  And Brian was extremely gracious to take some time out of his settling into his new role in Kuala Lumpur as ambassador.  I had a lot of questions to ask, but most importantly, I wanted to find out exactly what one does as an ambassador.
