As Martin gets closer to his birthday, he discusses three issues that could see some change in the next year. However, for that change to happen, people need to look at the idea of how Democracy works on three separate, but equal gears. Legislation, Moral (religious) and Civic Responsibility (or Societal Responsibility) gears must mesh in order to make the machine that is Democracy run. Too often people tend to put all their focus on the first two, while underplaying or dismissing outright the third gear. It is the third gear, Civic that totally relies on us alone as citizens on what to do to make a difference. Where the other two gears rely on our input (or faith) and dictate how we are to act in a Democracy, the third gear is the only gear that requires us to be actively engaged in creating positive change.
