Our podcast is in three parts. Part one looks at the recent Supreme Court decisions and how they seem to reflect a push for a quasi-religious stance on what should be secular law. While it can be argued that overruling Roe v. Wade has "kicked the issue to the states," the fundamental challenge of abortion is still there. That abortion crosses into a realm of where religious belief clashes with secular law. While some states now will not have abortions, others will continue to do so. So, who has won here? And if we are to diminish the number of abortions in the United States, doesn't that become with taking care of the people who are most likely to seek an abortion? Doesn't that require a citizenry that is willing to financially assist, provide education, opportunities and childcare necessary to help fellow citizens so they can choose to have children?
The second part of our podcast takes a lighthearted look at where a person can claim to be a citizen of these days without drawing any condemnation or embarrassment. Portugal seems to be a good call. Marty and Sandeep talk about some of the possibilites.
The third part of our podcast is the need of citizens to be active in their community. How finding a good hobby, a healthy activity, a chance to be with fellow citizens is the first step in combating some of the divisiveness that plagues the United States on this fourth of July, 2022. Listen in!
