This show gets personal to Merrill as he shares some of his own personal as well as professional experiences with Mental Health and Mental Illness. These are very real concerns that run rampant throughout our culture. Mental Illness can sometimes feel distant and vague as it is difficult to understand and see the actual mechanics of the illness. "If I could see it, I could fix it." In this case, we can't always see the source of the illness, but we can see the symptoms.
Men are called to be protectors and providers for their families. When they are not feeling or operating well, their ability to protect and provide diminishes. If this is for a short time we are typically able to work through it. But, when this goes on for unspecified durations, it can be exhausting and damaging to everyone involved.
During this show Merrill and Kyle attempt to create clarity on this topic and make it more understandable for the Strong Dads experiencing the likes of mental illness. It is important that we have ways to self-monitor and processes in place to help us through challenging times. This show hopes to give some of these tools.
If you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness, do not sit back and do anything. It's time to get to work and protect ourselves and our families.
