This is now a forgotten murder and a possible miscarriage of justice from 1911. It was a famous case of the time and featured in George Orwell's essay 'Decline of the English murder' when everybody seemed to read about and have an opinion of the murder cases of the day.
It was considered that Frederick Seddon would have escaped his sentence if he refused to give evidence at court and gave a 'no comment' response. However Mr Seddon was considered an arrogant person who couldn't stop himself putting his case to the jury. His wife who may have been the guilty party, kept a low profile.
