Now that we have reached the end of this series of episodes about in the 12 steps in our day-to-day lives, I would like to end with an episode about me and how I think of myself as a citizen of the world. As I’ve said in the episodes on the 12 step, even though we sometimes think of these steps as originating in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous, I do not feel as though they were meant for only one group of people. After all, the steps did originate, (albeit, in a different format), in the Oxford group, and these steps or tenets meant for all mankind.

Although I have identified in the past as an alcoholic, especially during the time when I was a member of A A, I no longer identified as an alcoholic. Please don’t get me wrong. This is important! I do not in any way think that I could possibly drink alcohol again. I believe that anyone who has had a problem with alcohol and that it has affected their lives in any way, it’s simply not even think of drinking again. I believe that one of the signs of becoming psychologically and spiritually well is that I would be able to look at my past experiences in an open and honest way. I know now that anyone had negative experiences while drinking alcohol or using any other substances, would simply say themselves, “hey, it would be absolutely crazy for me to even try to use that substance again!” So the reason I mean that identify as a person’s life has been seriously affected by alcohol, I know that alcohol was but a symptom of my real problems. God has given me the opportunity to become well. To me, becoming well it’s being restored to sanity and any return a former way of defeating myself certainly indicate a return to insanity!

In any event, I want to take this opportunity to bring myself and my current outlook on life through,  if you will, a spiritual basis. Maybe I would even call it a sort of manifesto. It seems to be a lot of those going around these days. I hope you’ve enjoyed this series. The next series of episodes will be dedicated to Serenity Prayer. This prayer has been a mainstay of 12-step programs, almost since their beginning.
