Step 5: Admission: Do I Need a Lawyer? (Part 1)

Please pardon my humor in the title. Yet, you may want to keep it in mind as you look for the right person to share you4th step. In this and the next three episodes, I’m going to talk about four parts of this step. This first episode has to do with ‘admitting to God’ the exact nature of our wrongs. At first blush, it seems a little unnecessary, sacrilegious, even, that I think there is stuff I have been able to hide from God. Well, I’m going out on a limb here, and saying that despite the terminology, this part of the step has to do with me. 

I now have the opportunity to really look at my life as I try to be in communion with God. I am meeting God, like mano a mano, or should it be mano a Dios? In any event, I am not treating this on my own as so many words, or actions, on paper. I must look at every aspect of this step and, my life, with God! I must include Him in my decisions, my wrongs, my aspirations, my life, and my love. In other words, this step is my kickstart to a life of partnership with God – the beautiful, powerful results of my surrender.
