The abduction of Rukmini in the Narayaneeyam is described in Dasakam 79. After receiving a heartfelt message from Rukmini expressing her love and plea for rescue from her unwanted marriage to Shishupala, Lord Krishna immediately sets out for Vidarbha. Upon arrival, Krishna is received with respect by King Bhishmaka but faces opposition from Rukmini’s brother Rukmi and other allied kings who wish to enforce the arranged marriage.
On the day of the wedding, as Rukmini visits the temple of goddess Ambika, Krishna arrives with an army led by his brother Balarama. Rukmini, radiant and eager, leaves the temple with a friend, and Krishna takes this moment to abduct her. Despite the presence of powerful enemies like Jarasandha and others, Krishna is able to drive them away as a lion would drive away jackals. He takes Rukmini on his chariot, thus rescuing her and defeating the opposition. This event culminates in their divine marriage, which is seen as a union of love, devotion, and divine will.
The abduction story is a pivotal episode showing Krishna as the protector of his devotees, highlighting Rukmini's deep devotion and Krishna's divine intervention to fulfill her wishes against overwhelming odds. This moment is celebrated as a romantic and heroic episode in Krishna's life and is elaborately portrayed in the Narayaneeyam Dasakam 79
