Dashakam 61 of the Narayaneeyam is significant for illustrating the superiority of devotion over ritualistic practices. In this Dashakam, Lord Krishna, along with the cowherd boys and calves, goes to a forest far from Brindavan to bless a group of Brahmin wives who were devoted to Him but unable to see Him due to their husbands' ritual obligations. The cowherd boys, sent by Krishna, request food from Brahmins performing a Yaga (sacrificial ritual), but the Brahmins rudely drive them away. However, when the request is made to the wives of the Brahmins, they warmly receive Krishna’s devotees and offer food.

Krishna then blesses these devoted wives, who deeply long for Him, and miraculously grants one of them salvation by intense meditation on Him, despite being restricted by her husband. The Brahmins eventually realize their mistake and recognize the primacy of true devotion (Bhakti) over mere ritualistic adherence. This Dashakam conveys the message that genuine heartfelt devotion is superior to mechanical religious rituals, and through devotion alone can one achieve divine grace and union with God.
