Sermon: Give Thanks In The In Between
Pastor Ryan Groshek

Recall God's deliverance from slavery.

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭15‬:‭1‬-‭2‬‬
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea. “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬-‭18‬‬
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1‬:‭13‬-‭14‬‬
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Rejoice in God's victory over our enemies.

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭15‬:‭3‬-‭12‬‬

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬‬
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬-‭15‬‬
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Rest in God's promised future.

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭15‬:‭13‬-‭18‬‬
In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia. The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away; terror and dread will fall on them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone— until your people pass by, Lord, until the people you bought pass by. You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance— the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established. “The Lord reigns for ever and ever.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭5‬‬
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
