March Madness is right around the corner, and though the NCAA Tournament brings plenty of exciting buzzer beaters, memorable moments, and impressive plays, it also brings something else that's pretty dumb: intentional fouls.

Why is it that an intentional foul at any other point of the game penalizes the team that commits the foul, but duringthe end of the game, it's the team being fouled that is at a disadvantage (especially because college teams struggle to shoot free throws)?
