Lurie Daniel-Favors is a consumer rights and bankruptcy attorney in New York. She is the founder of Daniel Favors Law Group P.C.
On June 1, 2011 Lurie celebrated her second anniversary as a solo, just 2 1/2 months after enrolling at SPU on the very first day SPU opened (she has said we’ll never get rid of her ) She tells a compelling story of how she rekindled her passion by creating her own type of civil rights practice (consumer protection law for her community) after getting hypnotized redirected in law school to BigLaw. Now Lurie has created a solo law practice she enjoys every day. Also learn how she has capitalized on the power of quality educational marketing to grow her practice by providing her community with information sorely needed…but no one else provided.
The interview is about 48 minutes. Listen directly below.

Prior to opening the Daniel Favors Law Group, Lurie was a corporate finance associate in the New York office of Manatt Phelps and Phillips, LLP. At Manatt, Lurie represented not-for-profit and corporate entities in both national and international business transactions. Before joining Manatt, Lurie was honored to serve as a judicial law clerk in the Chambers of the Honorable Sterling Johnson, Jr., in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. There she saw first hand the ways in which the law impacts the every day person. Prior to her federal clerkship, she started her legal career as an associate in the corporate department of the New York office of Proskauer Rose LLP.
Before attending law school at New York University School of Law, she co-founded Sankofa Community Empowerment, Inc. (“SCE”), a non-profit organization that creates and implements youth, college, community and economic programs that are structured to empower racially and economically disenfranchised communities. Lurie is also a co-founder of Breaking the Cycle Consulting LLC, an educational consulting firm that specializes in training educators to use culturally responsive teaching to increase academic achievement in at-risk student populations.
Lurie is a proud transplant to New York and resides in the People’s Republic of Brooklyn. She earned her baccalaureate degree at Pennsylvania State University and completed her juris doctorate at New York University School of Law.
