Housing Affordability in Ontario – the Time for Study has passed – it’s Time for Action

In early February 2022 Ontario’s Housing Affordability Task Force released its report after two months of consultation. It’s pretty clear why housing prices are so high – study after study shows the cause its supply restrictions. 

The issue is how to boost supply effectively.

Should Ontario make all residential areas of the province allow up to four units per lot facilitating smoother planning for developers? That’s going to light a fire of contention for many municipal governments.

Should the province limit the public engagement process required for approvals?

 In this episode Des connects again with Toronto Star Real Estate Reporter Tess Kalinowski to examine the Report and what comes next. Two things are very clear – there is an urgent need for action now – and red flags at every step.
