John 11 | In line with our theme for Advent, "Changing Expectations", we look at the story of Lazarus' death and how Martha & Mary (all of whom the writer explicitly says Jesus loved) built a case towards Christ in his apparent 'lack' of urgency to save Lazarus from illness and ultimately death. They've been waiting for the promise of the Messiah, the Coming one, and now he's here - but, it seems, he hasn't been doing what they've expected him to do. How do we feel about being in the same place of waiting for the promise of the Coming one this second time around? How do we - in the face of pain, disappointments, and discouragement - have hope?
