My Mother's Secrets with Donna Freed

Scandal, duplicity and secrets with our special guest New Yorker, Donna Freed who is a journalist and writer living in London and the founder of Radio Gorgeous, the longest running all-female podcast. On today’s episode, she tells us the story of discovering she was adopted when she was six years old, but was never able to discuss it with her family. When her adoptive mother died in 2009 Donna set out to track down her birth mother. What she discovered was truly shocking - that she was the daughter of a pair of infamous con artists, at the heart of one of the biggest true crime stories to grip the USA in the 1960s. Donna has recently written a memoir, 'Duplicity' which the New York Times described as reading like a thriller. Donna says her jewellery is like tattoos for her, each piece having an origin story and a special place in her heart. She opens her bold and fabulous jewellery box to show us her bits - each ring bearing a special memory of her fascinating family.
