May 31, 1920 - An oil tanker named the SS Selma hits a jetty off the coast of Tampico, Mexico. The impact rips a hole in the ship’s hull and the ship is taken to Galveston for repairs. When those don’t work, the ship becomes a permanent landmark on the Gulf coast of Texas.
