Within the first few chapters of the Bible, we have been introduced to the problem:

God makes three promises to Abraham (Genesis 12:
Nation and land: fulfilled in Old Testament
Universal blessing: fulfilled in New Testament
Genesis 50 - Israel grows as a nation in slavery to Egypt, and is then delivered from slavery by God.
Leadership transfers from Moses to Joshua and then a series of judges.
Israel requests a king and God gives them Saul.
After Solomon, Israel splits into Israel and Judah.
II Kings 17:5.
Judah has a few good kings, but eventually goes into Babylonian captivity in 586 B.C.
Israel is finally released from captivity and a remnant returns to restore Jerusalem. Nehemiah 9:1
It is important to follow God’s law!
God shows us the need that mankind had for a system of salvation. The stage is set for the fulfillment of the third promise.
The story of the New Testament
Matthew 1:1
Matthew 4:23 - Jesus proclaimed “the gospel of the kingdom”
Hebrews 10:4 - Animal sacrifice is insufficient.
Hebrews 9:22 - Forgiveness of sins requires the shedding of blood.
Acts 2:22 - The full gospel is preached for the first time.
Colossians 2:14 - The Old Testament law is no longer in effect.
