Missed out on last night's episode of the #KidsFirst Radio Show with Keven Cohen on 100.7 The Point? Don't worry! You can stream it NOW on SoundCloud to catch up and learn all about how kids are being put first in South Carolina. On today's show, Keven will speak with Deputy Superintendent, John R. Payne and Alana Jenkins, Co-Founder of Sea Islands Heritage Academy. Alana Jenkins is a passionate, determined leader spearheading the effort to found and lead a unique community-centered South Carolina charter school. Drawing on her roots as part of the Gullah Geechee heritage, she believes in the potential of self-determination and self-actualization as pathways to educational equity. Her motivation comes from her view that all students should have access to college and career pathways that afford them the opportunity to learn more about their cultural lineage and its legacy of resilience and strength. Alana has been preparing for this mission by working in education for years, most recently with BES a national nonprofit, as well as at Coney Island Prep in Brooklyn NY where she served as Dean of Students and Vice Principal. With her masters in teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education and bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Middlebury College, Alana is passionate about creating an individualized learning experience for all students.
