Jennifer Brown | Heartwood Community School

In this episode of Kids First, host Keven Cohen and Dr. Perry Mills welcome Jennifer Brown, Principal of Heartwood Community School in Ridgeland. Jennifer shares Heartwood’s mission of fostering resilient problem solvers, compassionate community builders, and globally minded citizens.

In its second year, Heartwood serves kindergarten through second grade and expands by one grade level each year until it reaches eighth grade. With a co-teaching model that places two certified teachers in every classroom, the school provides personalized support to ensure student success. Jennifer highlights the flexibility of charter autonomy, which allows Heartwood to tailor education to the needs of its students and families.

Beyond academics, Heartwood focuses on social-emotional learning and strong family engagement, offering programs like morning meetings, extended-day enrichment, and community-building initiatives.
