Next up live in the studio Macca and Fiona are joined by Zoe Daniel & Ange Pippos: Life After Federal Politics
Speaker, consultant, author, journalist and foreign correspondent, thought leader and community activist. Former community independent Federal member for Goldstein.
Early on in her first term, May 2023, Daniel introduced the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Prohibition Of Gambling Advertisements) Bill 2023.
The stated purpose of the Bill is to prohibit the broadcasting of gambling advertisements on television, radio broadcasting services, and on streaming services to end the promotion of gambling during sporting events. In November 2024, Daniel tabled the Online Safety Amendment (Digital Duty of Care) Bill 2024. The stated purpose of the Bill is to impose an ‘overarching duty of care onto large providers’ of social media platforms to protect their users.
During the 2022 campaign Daniel campaigned for the establishment of a federal anti-corruption commission. The Albanese Labor Government, who were elected at the 2022 Federal Election, established a National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on 1 July 2023.
Angela Pippos is an award-winning journalist, presenter, documentary-maker, author, MC, and, most recently, political adviser.
For the past three years, Angela has been at the centre of Australian politics as Chief Adviser to Independent Federal Member for Goldstein, Zoe Daniel. Her main areas of focus were women’s safety and economic security, early childhood education and care, and working with the government to deliver local projects for the electorate.
Angela’s move into federal politics was a fitting next step, building on her extensive and ground-breaking work as a strong voice for gender equality in sport and society.
Her documentary, The Record, followed Australia’s dramatic Women’s T20 World Cup campaign and the audacious bid to fill the MCG for the final on International Women’s Day 2020. The two-part series premiered globally on Amazon Prime in February 2021 and had a secondary release on ABC TV. Angela has also co-written and produced two television documentaries about the rise of women in Australian Rules football: League of her Own (Seven Network) and Heroes (ABC).
Now on its third reprint, Angela’s book, Breaking the Mould – Taking a Hammer to Sexism in Sport (2017) provides a fascinating insight into the changing Australian sporting landscape, and challenges all of us to level the playing field. It was selected by the Grattan Institute for the ‘Prime Minister’s Summer Reading list’ and it made The Australia Institute’s ‘Essential Reading List’.
During her 14 years with the ABC, Angela worked as a researcher on the 7.30 Report and as a reporter for TV News – but she’s perhaps best known for anchoring the sports segment on the 7pm TV News for a decade. Angela was also the first woman to co-host a breakfast sports radio program.
