For our podcast debut episode, we are cosying up for a chat with Narrm (Melbourne) based vocalist and producer Rosie Clynes, who performs her musical work under the name, Komang. Pressing play on her music takes you to a dreamy realm of genre you might not immediately be able to put your finger on, and to Komang, this was intentional.

Uniquely, she blends groove-based production with artistry influenced by her Balinese heritage, creating vibrant electronic RnB described as ‘neo-soul with Balinese spirit’. This multidisciplinary vision is perfectly exemplified in her recently released single, 'DEWI' named after the Indonesian word for ‘Goddess’ (you can hear it at the end of our interview in podcast episode 01). From starting off as a trained actor in theatre, to selling out her first solo show at AsiaTOPA 2020, Komang’s musical journey takes inspiration from her experience of navigating her cultural identity as a mixed-race Indonesian Australian. During a quiet afternoon amidst Victoria’s lockdown, Diletta sat down with Komang to unpack these diverse influences, affecting her creative process in music.
