Navy officer who runs a global nonprofit | Adam Cole - S.O.S. Podcast #10

In this episode, I chat with Adam Cole. Adam is the founder and executive director of Join the Journey, serving in a volunteer capacity in his off-duty time from active duty service in the Navy. 

Adam formed Join the Journey after deploying as part of the U.S. military relief to assist in recovery following Haiti’s 2010 earthquake. Join the Journey provides small loans - equivalent to $200 - and business coaching to give a boost to female business owners in Africa. Adam has deployed around the world. He has served the Navy for 17 years and through that journey, he found himself in Japan, Italy, and the Arabian Gulf. He is currently stationed in Arlington, Va. where the organization is now based. 

Not only that, but he is an experienced public affairs officer communicating first at the technician level and then transitioning to public affairs management and strategic communication. He served in a brief capacity in the U.S. Navy's surface warfare community, developing leadership experience and understanding of mission planning. Past assignments include many operational jobs with challenging regional dynamics: aboard a carrier deployed to the Arabian Gulf, at the Navy’s headquarters in the Mediterranean at the height of Russian aggression in Crimea and ongoing refugee crisis, and most recently in Japan amid ongoing regional tensions. 

He is deeply committed to providing Americans information and a sense of connection to the Sailors, Airmen, Soldiers, and Marines who serve to ensure freedom and democracy.

His nonprofit Join the Journey has an upcoming benefit coming up called Renewal on Aug. 19 featuring Jason Gray.
