💁🏻 Concept: Passive Obedience

Passive obedience refers to Christ’s willing submission to suffer and bear the penalty for our sins. It does not imply inactivity but rather His humble acceptance of the Father’s will—enduring the curse of the law, the wrath of God, and ultimately death on the cross. Christ’s passive obedience is one half of His redemptive work—the other being His active obedience (His perfect life under the law). Through His suffering and death, Jesus fully paid for our sins, satisfying divine justice and securing our forgiveness. His obedience unto death is our eternal hope.

📖 Bible Readings: Isaiah 53:5

(Philippians 2:8; Romans 5:8-10; Galatians 3:13; Hebrews 9:26-28; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 4:10)

👨🏻‍💻 Teachings:

1. Christ’s passive obedience means He suffered and died on our behalf.

2. Christ’s active obedience means He had fully obeyed all of God’s requirements on our behalf.

3. Christ’s passive and active obedience made us both acquitted and holy.

💪🏼 Applications:

1. Suffer for doing the right thing.

2. Sacrifice while being motivated by love.

3. Seek to grow each day towards holiness.

🎙Discussion:

Are you becoming holier today than yesterday? Why do you have to grow each day towards holiness?

Alternative questions:

1. What have you learned from this devotion?

2. How can you practically apply our devotion?

🙏🏼 Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I just want to pause and thank You. Thank You for bearing the punishment I deserved. You did not resist the cross, but willingly embraced it out of love and obedience. Your wounds became my healing, and Your death became my life. I rest in the truth that my sins—every one of them—were laid on You. Let this truth humble my heart, silence my pride, and increase my praise. Teach me to live daily in light of Your sacrifice, never forgetting the cost of my redemption. I worship You, my Savior and Substitute. In Your precious name I pray. Amen.
