Rupertsland Institute’s Shakamohta is back! Shakamohta is a show all about connecting students with Métis community members making waves across a variety of careers, hobbies and fields.

In this month’s episode, Métis athlete Thomas Froberg serves as co-host and guest on today’s episode as he and Jory chat about the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) and his subsequent time as a MacEwan University Griffin playing volleyball at the university level. Then Thomas’s teammate, Jackson McGillivray, joins him for a conversation on their athletic journeys and experiences as Métis members of Team Alberta’s volleyball team at NAIG 2023. Hear about the cultural and athletic experiences they had as their team scored gold in Nova Scotia.

This episode’s Michif word is sâķohtwâwin (sah-go-twah-win), which is a Northern Michif word for ‘victory’.
