Shakamohta: Sister Ray on Music

Rupertsland Institute presents Shakamohta, a student-led podcast. Shakamohta [shack-ah-moe-tah] is a Heritage Michif word meaning "connect," and this podcast is all about connection, community, and culture.  

In today's episode, host Samantha Hamann (she/her) chats with Métis musician and astounding vocalist Ella Coyes (they/them) about their musical endeavours as Sister Ray. 

Sister Ray’s voice within their music acts as a vessel to connect to their culture and forge a deeper connection with listeners.

Our Michif word for today comes from Heritage Michif. nakamoo (nah-ka-moh) means “sing” or, as well, somebody *is* singing.
