What happens when you say "Candyman" 5 times in the mirror? You might start wondering why the original Candyman haunted young black children in his own neighbourhood. Was that the central problem that writers Jordan Peele, Via DaCosta and Win Rosenfeld were trying to solve when reinventing the 1992 cult classic? Is Candyman a werewolf story, except a bee?  Candyman is a black revenge story  against white supremacist police brutality,  gentrification and cultural displacement, and possibly a superhero origin film.
