What is the role of culture? To set the tone for winning behaviors, not to make you feel good about yourself.
So many people now think everything is supposed to be nice and not hurt your feelings. But the more people have to worry about saying the wrong thing and hurting your feelings, the harder it becomes to win.
The best cultures are actually direct and to the point. That way, you spend less wasted time and get more done in less time.
The people who helped me advance the most were also my toughest critics. They didn't let me get away with wasting time or giving excuses. They called me out immediately and told me when something sucked. I didn't always agree or like the feedback, but I never had to wonder where we stood. Processing my feelings was my job. Their job was to be honest and up front with me so we could win.
No excuses!
