Habits and vices are formed and are the strongest through these highs and lows of our emotions.
If you can identify the pleasure or pain, aka the emotion, feeling, or sensation you are running from or to when these things come up, you can very quickly replace the action.
The trick is getting deep enough and honest enough with it. All habits fulfill some need for you. Even the things you deem bad are doing something to fill a hole in your mind, body, or soul. Identify the hole, and it can be replaced.
