When you train in perfect conditions and the real thing doesn't meet those standards...
A lot of people train for optimal conditions. The problem with that is that you rarely compete with those conditions.
That's why I've started working on a calorie deficit on the weekends. During my races, I have to compete and recover in that state, so why don't I train that way?
I do my normal breakfast, then a small snack like I use in the races, and my normal dinner.
Do you need to do this all the time? Nope. But adding in a few days of non-optimal training conditions helps you gain yet another skill you might need in many aspects of life.
No excuses!
