You might disagree with this, but everything you crave, every vice, is giving you something positive somewhere along the line.
The issue is that vice is causing even more problems that will appear later on, except for the REALLY unlucky ones that get that notice immediately.
Figuring out what the positive element it's providing you is the fastest way to overcome the vice. When you replace that piece with a healthier option, your body will quickly adjust.
The proof is in those "one-offs" that quit things cold turkey. They just find a way to achieve the need via better short-term and long-term options.
