What does that even mean?
This means to put your focus on the things you can affect. You can't change the weather, so why let it dictate your emotions? You can't control how someone reacts to something, so why let their reaction change your attitude?
Instead, put your time and attention on learning to communicate better. Focus on your self-talk, your attitude, and your effort. You can control those things.
You don't have control over the result, but you do control your process. So build that routine. Put the work into your mind. Build the knowledge and skills to be the best version of you.
